Escalation in Russia-Ukraine Conflict: Kyiv Strikes Seized Warship as Putin Accuses ISIS

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Ukraine has launched a targeted strike on a naval vessel seized by Russia during the annexation of Crimea, according to statements from Kyiv. Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian navy, confirmed that their forces successfully hit the Olshansky landing ship with a missile.

Pletenchuk asserted on national television that the vessel, Konstantin Olshansky, is presently incapacitated for combat. The ship, along with a significant portion of Ukraine’s navy, was appropriated by Russia during its military presence in Crimea back in 2014.

« Despite recent refurbishments aimed at deploying it against Ukraine, the decision was made to neutralize the threat posed by this ship, » Pletenchuk remarked.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has attributed the recent attack on a Moscow concert hall, resulting in the deaths of 139 individuals, to ISIS militants. Four suspects, who appeared in court bearing severe injuries on Monday, have been formally charged with terrorism by Moscow.

During a televised address, Putin explicitly blamed « radical Islamists » for orchestrating the assault. Furthermore, he insinuated a possible involvement of Ukraine in the attack, although such claims lack substantiated evidence.

The United States and several other Western nations have also echoed Putin’s assertion that ISIS was responsible for the tragic incident.
